John Luciano

Nov. 20, 1919 – Feb. 6, 2019

Luciano

What a celebration there was in heaven on this day, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019. It was a day John had lived for and looked forward to his entire life. He loved and served the Lord with a passion since he gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 10. His love and giving spirit was felt by so many over the years. Not only did he serve the Lord, he wanted to make sure others were aware of the Lord’s saving grace. We will never know how many souls are in heaven today because of his witness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Michael and Rose (Rubine) Luciano. He married Ethel N. McCurdy, who preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2011.

Surviving are a nephew, Ralph Luciano and wife, Donna, with whom he resided; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

John retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad and had also worked for McMahon’s Dairy. He was on the board of Altoona Bible Conference and served on many other church boards throughout the years.

He attended Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member of Faithful Followers and also the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God. He loved playing the organ in both the church, as well at nursing homes and at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. The Lord blessed him with a beautiful voice, which he used to give honor and praise to his savior.

John had many little sayings, but one of those was how he calculated his age when asked. He would always say his age but added, “plus the nine months mom carried me.” So actually he was almost 100 when he walked through heaven’s gates.

John would not want you to mourn for him. He instead would want you to make sure your heart is right with the Lord and that you will see him again.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church, Altoona, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at the church, Pastor Ron Anderson officiating and Gary Dull assisting.

In lieu of flowers, it was John’s wish that you make a donation to the Altoona Bible Conference or to the Lighthouse Men’s Fellowship, 116 Trinity Lane, Altoona, PA 16601.
