Walter ‘Gary’ Eger

Walter “Gary” Eger, 69, Lilly, went to his resting place on Tuesday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center.

He was born in Lilly, son of the late Joseph and Dolly (McMullen) Eger.

Surviving are a daughter, Harley Eger of Lilly Level; his friend, Brenda Adelsberg of Lilly Level; four sisters: Helen Osborne of Lilly Level, Joann Smith of Cresson, Pat (Joe) Salvicsky of St. Benedict and Judy (Jeff) Flynn of Lake of the Woods, Va.; two brothers: Roger (Pam) Eger of Needmore and Alfred Eger of Gallitzin; a special nephew, Ernie Smith of Cresson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene “Hound” and Clair Eger.

Gary graduated from Penn Cambria High School, and he was a Vietnam veteran, serving two years with the U.S. Army. For 39 years, he worked as a shear operator for Calandra’s (Cresson Steel), where he enjoyed the work and fellowship of many.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cresson. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at Sankertown VFW Post No. 7377, 133 Pennsyl­vania Ave., Cresson, Pastor John Bennett officiating. A lunch will be provided after the service at the post.
