Walter D. ‘Walt’ Babiak

July 12, 1948 - May 11, 2018

Walter D. “Walt” Babiak, 69, a resident of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Altoona, went home to be with his Lord early Friday morning at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of Dorothy A. (Young) and the late Walter P. Babiak. He was previously married to Darlene (Page) Panek of Altoona.

Surviving are his mother of Duncansville; three daughters: Julie Babiak (Abraham Gingerich) of Belleville and Jeanette Babiak and Jasmine Babiak, both of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Layla, Gabriel, Elijah, Lillian, Lorilye, Ignatius, Page and Eugene; and a brother, Earl F. Ayle of Chandler, Ariz.

Walt attended Altoona Area High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1967-70 and attaining the rank of corporal. He was employed as a tool and die maker for SKF, Altoona.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. Walt also enjoyed photography, hiking, camping and spending time in the outdoors.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service, with military honors, on Monday, May 14, 2018, at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, Pastor J. Brant Leidy officiating. A private interment will be held at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
