Roy Emerson Koontz

Roy Emerson Koontz, 83, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Feb. 8, 2017.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Herman G. and Zelda A. (Griffith) Koontz.

Surviving are a sister, Marian Hansen of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Henry Marvin (Margaret) Koontz of Springfield, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxy Ellen (Young) Koontz; and two sisters: Mary Eleanor (Griffith) Neal and Viola Mae (Warren) Harding.

Roy was a 1952 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and attended Florida Apprentice Mortuary Funeral School, and then he went to Cincinnati, Ohio, to study at Mortuary Restoration Services. He proudly served two years in the U.S. Army.

In 1971, Roy started his own funeral home, Koontz Little Chapel Funeral Home, and served many families with loving care. He truly loved the funeral industry.

He faithfully belonged to Masons, Odd Fellows, Grotto, Kiwanis and the Lions Club. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today, Feb. 15, 2017, at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, NE, Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Committal will be held at West Union Cemetery, West Union, Ohio, next to his wife.
