Gunman in racist attack pleads guilty
EL PASO — The gunman who killed 23 people in a racist attack at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, has pleaded guilty to capital murder.
Patrick Crusius changed his plea Monday in a state district court and was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the August 2019 attack, one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.

Former senator’s wife convicted of bribery
NEW YORK — The wife of former U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez has been convicted of charges that she teamed up with the New Jersey Democrat to accept bribes of cash, gold bars and a luxury car.
A New York jury returned its verdict Monday in the trial of Nadine Menendez.

More US lawmakers visit deported resident
SAN SALVADOR — Four House Democrats are visiting El Salvador in a bid to support Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man whom the Trump administration deported to a notorious Salvadoran prison.
While administration officials have acknowledged that the decision to deport Abrego Garcia was done in error, they have said they have no power to return him to the country despite a Supreme Court ruling calling on the government to do so.

US airstrikes kill 12 people in Yemen
DUBAI — U.S. airstrikes targeting Yemen’s capital killed 12 people and wounded 34 others, the Houthi rebels said early Monday.
The deaths mark the latest in America’s intensified campaign of strikes targeting the rebels. The U.S. military’s Central Command declined to answer questions about the strike or discuss civilian casualties from its campaign.
