Northern Cambria woman killed in multi-vehicle crash on Plank Road in Altoona
An 84-year old Northern Cambria woman was killed Friday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash on Plank Road, Altoona.
The Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Department posted on its Facebook page shortly after 1 p.m. advising drivers to avoid Plank Road from Convention Center Drive to Holiday Bowl as firefighters and other emergency responders worked on “multiple accidents.”
According to 911 dispatchers heard on emergency scanners, a three-vehicle accident in front of Discount Tire was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Dispatchers told emergency responders that one of the drivers fled the scene and allegedly caused a head-on crash near the I-99 Plank Road ramps.
The Blair County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene of the second accident, on the 2800 block of Plank Road, about 1:04 p.m., according to a news release.
Upon arrival, it was determined that Barbara Tretinik had died from injuries suffered from a multi-vehicle crash, the coroner’s office reported. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning.
Allegheny Township police are investigating the crash.
