A man who allegedly attacked multiple customers at the 700 Chestnut Avenue Sheetz is behind bars, unable to post $200,000 bail.
According to Altoona police, officers were dispatched to the Sheetz about 2:20 a.m. June 28 for a disturbance in which a male, later identified as Terrell Jarod Sanders, 40, was attacking customers inside the store.
Police found Sanders walking near the Seventh Street Bridge and he was taken into custody for public drunkenness.
A search incident to arrest turned up small bags containing a white powdery substance and a white rock-like substance.
After returning to Sheetz and speaking with employees as well as reviewing surveillance footage, it was determined Sanders entered the store and immediately caused a disturbance while trying to gain entry to the locked beer cooler.
Police said the video surveillance showed the sequence of events, with Sanders punching a male victim in the midsection. The male victim then appeared to make a phone call, which Sanders believed was to the police. Sanders again punched the male victim in the midsection and the face, police said.
Moments later, a female victim entered the store and was confronted by Sanders. The female victim was determined to be a former romantic partner of Sanders, who he then punched in the face three times before she fell into a checkout display, according to court documents.
As Sanders exited the store, a second male victim was attempting to enter. Sanders punched the second male victim several times in the face and midsection before he fell to the floor. At that time, Sanders stomped on his face/head, police reported.
Sanders, who has no fixed address, was arraigned Saturday before Magisterial District Judge Paula M. Aigner on felony charges of aggravated assault, intimidating victim/witness and terroristic threats, along with misdemeanor charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, harassment and public drunkenness.
He was remanded to the Blair County Prison after being unable to post bail.
His preliminary hearing is set for July 9 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio.
