HoopsFest 2025 shattered records this past weekend, welcoming 238 teams and 902 players from nine states and 175 different towns and cities. The event’s leaders said it was the largest HoopsFest in the event’s history by the sheer number of people who attended.
The annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament, known for uniting the community through sport and faith, brought thousands to Altoona’s streets for an unforgettable day of competition, connection and celebration. The event’s atmosphere was electric with beautiful weather, dozens of food vendors and more than 230 dedicated volunteers who made the day possible.
One of the highlights of the day was an awe-inspiring performance by Dominic Gonzales, one of the world’s top professional dunkers. Known globally as @dom.dunks, the 21-year-old Californian and 2023 FIBA 3×3 World Tour Dunk Contest champion stunned the crowd with gravity-defying dunks, showcasing his 48-inch vertical leap and incredible creativity.
HoopsFest also recognized this year’s HoopsFest ambassador, Halee Smith from Juniata Valley. Smith played in two state finals and just graduated from Layfette. Also recognized was the Saint Francis basketball team and local legend Patrick Haigh (from BG and Mount St. Mary’s) for playing in this past season’s March Madness.
Jim Kilmartin, founder of HoopsFest, delivered a powerful message encouraging participants and spectators to “finish strong” in all areas of life, echoing the event’s commitment to inspiring youth and families through sportsmanship and faith.
