Safety improvement project to begin

Overnight traffic delays will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 6, on Frankstown Road, between Amelia Avenue and Route 36, Union Avenue, as a project to improve safety and upgrade traffic signals begins.

Lane closures and short-term overnight traffic controls will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sundays to Thursdays, for the duration of the project, which is expected to be complete in September.

Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc., Everett, is the contractor for the one-mile, $7.5 million project, which will provide safety improvements on the Frankstown Road corridor from Amelia Avenue to the Route 36 (Union Avenue) intersection with East Plank Road/Pleasant Valley Boulevard.

The work will include diamond grinding, concrete patching, high-friction surface treatment, drainage improvements, signing and pavement marketing, highway lighting and traffic control devices and traffic signal upgrades.

Bridge rehab projects scheduled

Delays may be experienced on Pleasant Valley Boulevard and Valley View Boulevard, between Jaggard Street and 10th Street, for rehabilitation projects on the 16th Street and 12th Street bridges.

The project, which begins Tuesday, April 8, will close 16th Street and 12th Street and detours will be implemented, PennDOT said in a news release.

For the 12th Street bridge project, a detour less than one mile in length for about 52 days will be in place using Pleasant Valley Boulevard, 10th Street, 13th Street, Adams Avenue and Valley View Boulevard.

For the 16th Street project, a detour, also less than one mile in length and for about 52 days, will be in place using Jaggard Street, Valley View Boulevard, 15th Street and Pleasant Valley Boulevard.

Permanent roadway signs will be in place to mark the start, end and route of the detour, and flaggers and channelizing devices will be in place where needed.

Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc., Everett, is the contractor for the $524,135.35 bridge rehabilitation project. The project should be complete in May.

Starting at $2.99/week.
