No restitution ordered in church vandalization case
Trimm pleads guilty, gets credit for time served
HOLLIDAYSBURG — A Tyrone man who burglarized and vandalized a Tyrone church in November is expected to present the church with an apology but won’t have to make restitution.
In a negotiated plea agreement, Garrett Trimm, 25, entered guilty pleas Friday in Blair County court to felony counts of burglary and criminal mischief for a sentence of three months to 24 months, minus a day, followed by three years’ probation.
President Judge Wade A. Kagarise, after accepting Trimm’s pleas, credited him for time served since Nov. 27 and indicated that his release from the county prison is pending.
Weeks told the judge that the church was in agreement with the proposed resolution and didn’t request restitution.
Defense attorney Robert Donaldson said his client will be offering an apology to the church.
Tyrone police accused Trimm and co-defendant Shaylyne Marie Bunnell, 22, of burglarizing the Bible Baptist Church, 1455 Hamilton Ave., after reviewing surveillance video showing a man and woman walking through the church when it wasn’t open to the public. During that time, four cameras, three TVs and a ceiling projector were ripped from the walls and ceiling, along with wiring to outlets, with replacement and damages adding up to an estimated $5,500.
Tyrone police reported that when the couple were taken into custody, Trimm spoke of entering the church through its unlocked front door and damaging the property because he believed the church to be “demonic.”
Online court records show Bunnell, whose charges are still pending, was released from the county prison on unsecured bail in December.
