City native Reid inducted into Central Pa. music hall of fame
The Blair County region’s music industry was represented at the Central Pennsylvania Music Awards held in Lancaster Wednesday night, where Altoona native Mike Reid was inducted into its Hall of Fame.
Reid, 77, performed for the more than 1,100 in attendance at the American Music Theatre during the sixth annual awards ceremony. The Hall of Fame and accompanying awards “preserve the region’s musical heritage, promote the live music scene and nurture the next generation through a youth music education program,” according to its website.
Reid performed “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” which he co-wrote with Allen Shamblin, which became a hit for Bonnie Raitt in 1991 and has been covered by about 500 different artists since.
Also inducted into the Hall of Fame were: August Burns Red, Anita Humes (posthumously), The Innocence Mission, The Jordan Brothers and Soulville All-Stars.
More than 4,000 nominations were received for the various music awards. Local musicians who were among the finalists were: Jimmy Mowery, male vocalist, (winner Dr. Nyce); Felix and the Hurricanes and Sweet Desire, blues/rock (winner Ben Brandt); and The Jaded Lips, rock (winner Babel Map).
