Bellwood woman killed in house fire

A Bellwood woman was killed in a late night house fire Monday.

According to the Blair County Coroner’s Office, 61-year-old Tammy Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene of the dwelling fire, 400 S. Second St., Bellwood.

Excelsior Fire Department, along with multiple mutual aid companies, were dispatched at 11:12 p.m. Monday to the fire that was reported as a working fire with entrapment.

The blaze was a block from the fire station and despite the efforts of multiple firefighters and fire companies, the victim succumbed during the incident, Excelsior stated on its Facebook page.

The state police fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate.

The coroner pronounced Steward dead shortly after midnight Tuesday, according to a news release.

Stewart’s cause of death is pending investigation and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
