Mearkle to discuss research for book
Kevin Mearkle will talk about Bedford County’s role in the Underground Railroad at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Bedford County Historical Society.
During the event, Mearkle will share some insights gained during the research for his book, “The Underground Railroad in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.” On display will be photographs of the eight structures cited as Underground Railroad stations that are still standing in Bedford County today. Information will also be provided on two Underground Railroad stories that came to light after the release of the book.
Mearkle’s books will be available for purchase at the event. Light refreshments will be served.

Hollidaysburg Class of ’59 to meet
Members of the Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 20, in the reserved room at The Dream, 1500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg.
Classmates and guests are welcome. The room has been reserved for the third Thursday of every month for 2025.
