Dollar General planned for Wehnwood location
A limited liability company plans to build a Dollar General in Wehnwood, on ground where a Pizza Hut recently stood. An engineering firm for PC3-DG Altoona LLC plans to submit a land development plan for the Dollar General in February, according to Sabrina Appel-McMillen, the city’s GIS/land use coordinator.
The city has no details on the land development plans yet, Appel-McMillen said. The Pizza Hut was demolished in November.
Sheetz announces fundraiser total
Sheetz For the Kidz, a Sheetz employee-driven charity supporting underprivileged children, raised more than $1.81 million for local children in need in 2024. The total amount includes a record-breaking $852,476 raised in December.
These funds supported local kids in need with clothes, toys and more through the Sheetz For the Kidz Holiday Program in partnership with The Salvation Army. Each of Sheetz’s more than 750 stores supported 16 children from their local communities, totaling over 12,500 this past holiday season.
In partnership with Make-A-Wish, funds raised during the campaign also sponsored wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. The charity sponsors one child per Sheetz operating district, totaling 78 children this past year.
In order to broaden the connection to the communities it serves, Sheetz For the Kidz partners with Feeding America to provide food to children in need. In 2024, their $782,000 commitment served over 1.7 million meals through backpack programs, kids cafes, school and mobile pantries and summer feeding programs.
