Woman faces endangerment count

Markle allegedly found passed out in car with infant

A city woman faces charges after she allegedly passed out in her car while under the influence with an infant inside the vehicle.

Rose Markle, 28, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones Wednesday on a felony charge of endangering the welfare of children, as well as a misdemeanor charge of DUI-general impairment.

Officers observed a woman passed out in her vehicle in gear and running with an infant inside in the parking lot of the Chestnut Avenue Sheetz.

The vehicle was running and in gear, according to court documents.

When an officer shook Markle’s shoulder, Markle opened her eyes, looked around and let her foot off the brake, slamming into the yellow barriers in front of the Sheetz store.

The child was released to its father.

Markle was arrested and then transported to UPMC Altoona, but refused a blood test.

Markle was unable to post $35,000 cash bail and was remanded to the Blair County Prison. She is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio for a preliminary hearing May 25.
