Parking garage to be improved

Blair County commissioners have approved a $600,000 contract with Ralph J. Albarano & Sons for improvements to the county’s parking garage on Mulberry Street.

Albarano was the lower of two bidders for the job.

The county’s 2017 bond issue has sufficient money to pay for the bill, County Administrator Nicole Hemminger told commissioners.

Courtroom sound contract OK’d

HOLLIDAYSBURG – Blair County commissioners have approved a $4,410 contract with Bettwy Systems to replace the sound system in Courtroom 2 and connect it with nearby judicial chambers.

Courtroom 2, created during the building of the 1906 addition, was temporarily closed when the county initiated renovations to stop water from seeping into the structure and when a replacement heating, ventilating and air conditioning system was installed.

The courtroom was reopened last year after installation of carpeting and refurbished seating.

Liability insurance to cost more

HOLLIDAYSBURG – Blair County will pay just under 9% more for a year of liability insurance, through June 1, 2023.

The county’s premium from Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool — also known as PCoRP — will be $399,281.

County Administrator Nicole Hemminger told commissioners that the average increase for county premiums was 7% to 8 % which PCoRP attributed to prison lawsuits and cyber crime liability.
