Police: Woman endangered child

An Altoona woman faces charges for an alleged physical altercation with a male victim while he was holding a child, court documents stated.

Karah Ann Yon, 26, was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller on a felony charge of endangering the welfare of children in relation to an incident Sunday on the 2700 block of Fairway Drive.

Police said that an intoxicated Yon attempted to take a 2-week-old child out of a juvenile’s arms during a custody battle.

According to a complaint, the juvenile victim told police that he was afraid of dropping the child and pushed Yon out of the way to protect the baby.

Police had been at the residence twice earlier that day for a custody dispute, according to court documents.

In addition to the felony charges, Yon also faces charges of recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

Yon was released on unsecured $10,000 bail and is to appear for a preliminary hearing Jan. 26 before Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones.
