Man faces charges after robbery attempt
A Carrolltown man faces charges after he allegedly brandished a knife during a robbery and fled from police by foot, court documents stated.
Vincent James Barrett, 34, was arraigned Monday by Cambria County Magisterial District Judge Michael Zungali for 12 charges, including two felony counts of burglary and criminal trespassing after breaking into a Barr Township residence Sept. 16.
Police accuse Barrett of forcing his way into a residence early in the afternoon on Oil Tank Hill Road, Barr Township.
The homeowner returned home at about 3:08 p.m. and allegedly discovered Barrett standing in the kitchen with a large grey bag and attempting to steal a Playstation 4 headset and other equipment.
Barrett is accused of brandishing a knife with a 4-inch blade at the victim and another person that arrived at the residence, allegedly threatening them both.
Police said Barrett allegedly stole about $200 cash from the kitchen table and fled to his residence, which was nearby the house he broke into.
After being followed by the victims, Barrett is accused of grabbing an aluminum baseball bat and threatening to kill the two victims.
When state police arrived on scene, Barrett allegedly fled on foot into a wooded area before being apprehended in a nearby driveway.
Barrett is currently detained at Cambria County Prison after being unable to post 10% of $50,000 bail.
He is to appear before Zungali Oct. 12 for a preliminary hearing.
