Crash claims life of city man

Lackey killed in Perry County accident

A city man was killed after being ejected from a vehicle during an accident in Perry County, state police reported.

Clinton M. Lackey, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-car accident at 1:03 p.m. Wednesday on Route 22 in Home Township.

Lackey, who police said was not wearing a seatbelt, was the passenger of a 2004 Infiniti QX56 that overturned several times.

The driver of the vehicle, Wendall Carr, 25, of New Castle, was transported to Hershey Medical Center for severe injuries suffered in the crash, state police reported.

Carr and Lackey were traveling westbound on Route 22 when Carr allegedly lost control of the vehicle and hydroplaned. Police said the vehicle rotated and left the roadway, rolling several times before coming to a rest on a berm facing southward.

Troopers allegedly discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, and Carr submitted to a blood draw, police reported.

State police reported Route 22 was closed for nearly four hours as a result of the accident.
