Area police to hold Night Against Crime

Area police departments are gearing up for today’s annual National Night Out Against Crime.

The events, which are free to the public, aim to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

The Altoona Police Department will host activities from 6 to 9 p.m. at Heritage Plaza, 1401 11th Ave., Altoona.

The event will feature food vendors, giveaways and a police dunk tank.

Entertainment will be provided by Donny Burns & the 3rd Degree.

The Blair County Sheriff’s Office is hosting events at the Duncansville Antique Depot.

The Duncansville event begins with a parade on Third Avenue, followed by a community car show for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Registration for the car show is free and begins at 5:15 p.m.

The night concludes with fireworks at 9 p.m.

The Everett Borough Police Department is also holding festivities at South Street, Everett.

Attendees will be able to meet local law enforcement officers and tour police vehicles.

The Everett Fire Department will hold a vehicle extrication demonstration among other safety demonstrations. Other features include McGruff the Crime Dog, children’s photo ops, child ID by Your Safe Haven and a visit from the Bedford County Wilderness Search Team.

Displays, games, activities and giveaways will be available.
