Tea party to address sanctuary push

CLAYSBURG — The Blair County Second Amendment Coalition and the Blair County Tea Party will hold a joint press conference at 6:45 p.m. today at the community center, 122 Senior Drive, in Claysburg to discuss the ongoing petition drive to put Second Amendment Sanctuary status for Blair County on the November ballot.

Former state Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr., Tea Party President Rhonda Holland, Colonel Craig Carlson and Second Amendment Coalition President Bonita Shreve will speak.

“The recent admission by the Biden administration that it is actively working to censor social media posts should be a wake up call to every citizen,” Holland said. “Our rights are under attack. This is the tyranny the Founding Fathers warned us about, and the very reason for the Second Amendment!”

More than half of all U.S. counties have passed Second Amendment sanctuary laws to prohibit local governments from spending money on the enforcement of laws that infringe on the right of lawful citizens to bear arms or otherwise erode the Second Amendment.

Two ballot petition types are being circulated before the Aug. 4 deadline: A countywide petition declaring Blair County to be a Second Amendment sanctuary and a separate petition specific to each of Blair County’s 24 municipalities.
