Mobile home blaze injures 2 in Cambria

WHITE TOWNSHIP — Two people were injured and a mobile home was destroyed in an early morning fire in Cambria County.

First responders were dispatched at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday for a fire on the 2600 block of St. Augustine Road.

Upon arriving on scene, Ashville Fire Chief Joe Racz said the house was nearly engulfed in flames.

“We arrived on scene and had a mobile home that was at least 50% involved,” Racz said.

Racz said both occupants escaped the house but were transported to a local medical center for smoke inhalation and minor burns. They were released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon, he said. The homeowners lost several pets as well.

Racz said after the residents escaped the flames, they were stranded in their front yard and had to be transported down the road to a neighbor’s house to make the initial 911 call, which allowed the fire to grow.

Once the call was made, first responders arrived on scene within minutes, Racz said, with the Ashville, Patton and Glendale fire departments controlling the scene.

“It was a quick response,” Racz said. “The three departments all functioned as one department. Each team took the appropriate action, and everyone worked as a team.”

The fire was ruled accidental, Racz said.
