Latest numbers on virus mixed

The COVID-19 outbreaks in Blair and Bedford counties modestly worsened during the past week, while conditions in Cambria, Centre and Clearfield counties improved — with Huntingdon County’s numbers remaining static, according to the state Department of Health’s recent update of its early warning dashboard.

Collectively, for all six local counties, there were 183 fewer new cases in the most recent week than in the previous week.

Blair County’s case count was up 17 to 223; Bedford’s was up 18 to 61, while Centre’s case count was down 137 to 154, Cambria’s was down 45 to 132 and Clearfield’s was down 36 to 114 — with Huntingdon’s numbers the same at 69.

Similarly, Blair and Bedford counties’ numbers of new cases per 100,000 residents — the incidence rate — rose, while Cambria’s, Centre’s and Clearfield’s numbers dropped, and Huntingdon’s remained the same.

Again, similarly, Blair and Bedford counties’ test positivity rates went up, while Cambria’s, Centre’s and Clearfield’s numbers sank, with Huntingdon’s positivity rising slightly.

Blair had the highest incidence rate at 183 new cases in the past week per 100,000 residents, while Centre had the lowest incidence rate at 94.

The highest daily average was in Blair, with 41.9 patients per day in the hospital for COVID-19.

The lowest daily average is in Huntingdon, at 1 patient per day.
