City woman faces assault charges
An Altoona woman was charged Saturday for allegedly strangling and assaulting another woman, police reported.
Crystal D. Patterson, 36, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger, and Patterson faces charges of strangulation, making terroristic threats, simple assault and intimidation of a victim, court documents stated.
Police reported Patterson’s ex-girlfriend wanted to leave their Altoona residence to go to a friend’s house, but Patterson allegedly did not let the woman leave, telling her she would keep her hostage and that she “deserved to die,” the criminal complaint said.
Officers reported that Patterson allegedly stole the victim’s phone and broke it after the victim said she would call police.
Police said Patterson allegedly proceeded to strangle the victim, and after the victim escaped the stranglehold, Patterson punched her several times in the face.
Patterson allegedly placed her hand over the victim’s mouth in an attempt to stop her from crying out for help, then put her mouth over the victim’s mouth and bit her bottom lip, police reported.
Patterson was jailed at the Blair County Prison because she was unable to post her $30,000 cash bail, court documents said.
Patterson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 12 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio.
