Virus spurs Myers Elementary closure
BELLWOOD — Myers Elementary School will be closed today and Thursday because of COVID-19. The cases were discovered Tuesday morning.
“We have four cases of COVID, two students and two employees,” said Bellwood-Antis School District Superintendent Thomas McInroy. “We have been in contact with the state Department of Health. We are expecting to have a two-day closing Wednesday and Thursday; we are not sure yet about Friday.”
McInroy said everybody is tired of the pandemic.
“We are tired and ready to be done with COVID. We need people to stay vigilant and follow the guidelines as far as social distancing and wearing masks like we have been doing for a year,” he said.
“We need to maintain the quality of education and maintain the safety of everyone. We have been doing cleaning on the weekends to make sure the school is safe. It is getting about unmanageable. We have about five weeks to go,” he said.
McInroy said contact tracing found no patterns from within the school.
“They are coming from … activities outside of the school. We need to stay vigilant with social distancing and masks, even at home,” McInroy said.
