Centre native to lead SCI Benner
BELLEFONTE — Corrections Secretary John Wetzel has announced that Morris L. Houser has been appointed superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Benner Township.
Houser replaces Robert Marsh, who recently was named Acting Deputy Secretary for the Central Region.
Houser was born and raised in Centre County and is a graduate of Bellefonte High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1991 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and received a master’s degree from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
Houser started his career in 1991 as a Centre County probation and parole agent and transitioned to the Department of Corrections in 1995, where he worked at SCI Houtzdale as a drug and alcohol counselor and later a corrections counselor. He has held several positions throughout his career in corrections, including unit manager at SCI Forest and corrections classification and program manager at SCI Cresson and SCI Huntingdon. Prior to his promotion to superintendent, he worked as the deputy superintendent of Centralized Services at SCI Rockview.
SCI Benner Township opened in April 2013 and houses adult men.
