Theft of candy, cheese leads to arrest
Suspect ate food in restroom stall, police said
Police arrested a Pittsburgh woman Tuesday after she allegedly stole about $4 in food from a Sheetz in Hollidaysburg, court documents stated.
Caitlin S. Salamacha, 31, was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones on a felony theft charge.
Hollidaysburg Borough police responded to the Sheetz at 1100 Blair St. about 10 p.m. Tuesday regarding a woman, later identified as Salamacha, who would not exit the restroom, a criminal complaint stated.
Police noted the door to Salamacha’s bathroom stall was locked, and before she exited the stall, the toilet was flushed multiple times.
As she exited the stall, police observed a piece of candy in the stall and part of a candy wrapper, court documents stated. Police reported they discovered two string cheese wrappers as well.
Salamacha told police she ate the candy, but a Sheetz employee said she did not pay for the candy or cheese, court documents stated.
Police listed total as $4.19.
According to a criminal complaint, Salamacha has two previous convictions for retail theft.
Salamacha was arrested and released on an unsecured bail of $5,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 23 before Judge Paula Aigner, court documents stated.
