Police: Woman took drugs to probation meeting

A Hollidaysburg woman allegedly attended her probation meeting with a significant amount of heroin in her purse, court documents state.

Valene M. Reed, 39, was arraigned Sunday by Magisterial District Judge Daniel DeAntonio on drug-related charges, and Reed’s unsecured bail was set at $15,000, according to court documents.

Altoona police responded to the Blair County Adult Probation office at 705 Eighth Ave., Saturday after receiving reports of drug paraphernalia at the location.

Reed’s probation officer told police that Reed arrived at the office for a scheduled visit, but when she was searched, the probation officer discovered 30 small plastic bags containing a white, powdery substance.

The probation officer also discovered a hypodermic needle cap in Reed’s belongings, police reported.

Reed was taken into custody by the Blair County Sheriff’s Office in regards to an active arrest warrant, court documents state.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 10 with DeAntonio, according to court documents.
