Blair Commission reviews C-K athletic facilities upgrades

No site access changes

Plans for Claysburg-Kimmel School District to upgrade its high school athletic facilities received a positive review from the Blair County Planning Commission.

A new softball field, ADA accessible metal bleachers to replace the unsafe existing concrete bleachers at the football field, an outdoor basketball court, a field house, a concession stand, an indoor batting facility, a maintenance building, a potential future gravel overflow parking lot and various walking paths within the site are proposed.

Claysburg-Kimmel officials did not return messages seeking comment.

No changes to site access are planned, and the number of parking spaces will not differ drastically from the existing amount and the potential future gravel overflow parking lot should ensure that there is sufficient parking for athletic events, Jamie L. Klink, regional planner, said.

It does not appear that

there are any proposed bicycle parking facilities proposed as part of

this plan.

“We recommend the inclusion of bicycle parking facilities at this site in order to accommodate students and patrons who might utilize bicycle transportation,” Klink said.

While the proposed improvements could generate additional vehicle traffic, “We do not anticipate any negative impacts or changes in traffic patterns as a result of the proposed improvements,” Klink said. “Regardless, if they have not already done so, we recommend that the developer consults with Greenfield Township to address any unforeseen potential negative impacts on the local transportation system.”
