Commission approves strategic planner salary

Blair County Planning Commission members on Thursday approved a salary of $50,000 for Sherry Socie, who has been hired as a strategic planner.

Socie has been employed by the Hollidaysburg Area School District and was previously employed at the Altoona Area School District and Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8.

In her position, she will provide grant writing and administration services to Blair Planning, constituent municipalities and partner organizations.

Meanwhile, the commission is looking for a new solicitor to replace David Pertile, who is leaving his present law firm. Commission members hope to name a new solicitor in February, according to Planning Director David McFarland.

On Thursday, commission members welcomed Tom Holsinger of Roaring Spring to the board. Holsinger, the zoning and code officer in Roaring Spring, was appointed last month by the Blair County Commissioners to fill a spot that has been vacant since the Dec. 31, 2019, resignation of Dennis Hammel of Williamsburg.
