Woman faces drug charges
An Altoona woman who police say overdosed in the Blair County Prison now faces charges.
Michelle A. Turiano, 47, allegedly admitted she used heroin and methamphetamine when Hollidaysburg police responded to the jail about 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 4 for a report of a possible overdose, according to the charges.
Turiano allegedly told police she had a syringe and “other items stuffed up her vagina,” police noted in the charges.
Turiano was taken to UPMC Altoona for a medical examination and police said a doctor removed 16 small paper bags with brown, powdery residue as well as a prison toothbrush from her vagina.
Turiano is on probation and was jailed the day before, police noted.
Turiano was arraigned Monday on two felony drug contraband charges and she remains in Blair County Prison in lieu of $30,000 cash bail set by Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 22.
