Police: City man crashed into home

An Altoona man is suspected of driving drunk when he crashed into a house in Tyrone over the weekend.

Elliot Robertson, 26, of Altoona, was taken to UPMC Altoona by ambulance early Saturday for treatment of unspecified injuries and a blood test after he crashed into a home on the 500 block of Washington Avenue, according to Tyrone police.

It was 5:21 a.m. Saturday when police were dispatched after a caller reported to 911 that a vehicle had crashed into a house and the driver was trying to leave the scene, police noted.

When police arrived, Robertson was on his phone and allegedly had alcohol on his breath. Police noted a preliminary breath test showed positive for alcohol.

Police said Robertson’s 2008 Jeep Wrangler damaged the front porch of the home leaving a large field of debris that included chunks of concrete. A metal support beam beneath the porch was knocked loose by the impact, police said.

The investigation continues pending the results of Robertson’s blood test.
