City man accused of robbing woman
A city man is in jail after police say he and two others robbed a woman of cash and pills.
Franklin E. Reed Jr., 38, allegedly told the woman, who was a friend, that he could give her a ride to the store when she contacted him Saturday morning, according to the charges.
When Reed arrived on the 1400 block of Second Avenue about 11:30 a.m. to give the woman a ride, he was a passenger in an SUV and with two other people that the woman had met through him the night before.
When the SUV pulled out, Reed and the other passenger grabbed the woman’s purse and started asking her where she had the money and pills.
The woman told police Reed and many other people were aware she received some money from a friend who had died and Reed also knew when she had her prescription for her Klonopin pills filled.
Ultimately, one of them found the $679 in cash the woman had hidden in black container in her purse. The woman was then dropped off outside her home and she told police she threw some pills at the others and they drove off.
Reed is charged with felony conspiracy and robbery along with misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property. Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller set bail at $25,000 cash on Monday morning and Reed remains in Blair County Prison
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 23 at Central Court.
