Police: Wanted man lied about ID

Mulraney

A traffic stop in Tyrone has landed an Altoona man in jail on gun and drug charges.

Shane M. Mulraney, 28, of Altoona, was a passenger in a car stopped by Tyrone police about 1 p.m. Friday after a call about an erratic driver, according to charges filed in Tyrone District Court.

Police said Mulraney initially told police he didn’t have any identification on him and gave the name Eric Mulraney. As police spoke with Mulraney, he was holding his wallet and an officer could see there was a photo ID in it. When Mulraney was asked for that ID, he claimed it belonged to his twin brother, Shane Mulraney, police noted.

A check of Mulraney’s real name showed he had a warrant from another county, and when he was taken into custody, police could see a handgun on the passenger-side floor of the car. A pipe with suspected methamphetamine was allegedly found in a pocket of a sweatshirt on the back seat that the driver said belonged to Mulraney.

Mulraney is charged with a felony count of carrying a firearm without a license and misdemeanor counts of false identification to law enforcement, drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession.

Mulraney was arraigned Friday afternoon by Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner and lodged in Blair County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $25,000 cash bail. He is due to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller today for a preliminary hearing.
