Hollidaysburg man faces assault charge
Archdeacon accused of choking, punching woman
A Frankstown Township man is free on bail after police say he beat and choked a woman early Saturday.
John M. Archdeacon, 39, of Hollidaysburg is accused of repeatedly punching the woman in the face in the breezeway of their home on 1000 block of West Loop Road, according to state police.
State police allege Archdeacon then grabbed the woman by the neck and squeezed before she was able to get away, lock herself in a bedroom and call 911 about 2:30 a.m.
Archdeacon fled and the woman was taken to UPMC Altoona. State police indicated her left eye was almost swollen shut and bruised and the upper part of her right eye was heavily bruised and swollen. The woman also had bruising and swelling on her neck, according to state police.
Troopers took Archdeacon into custody at a home on the 2100 block of Reservoir Road and he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller.
Archdeacon is charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor simple assault. He posted $20,000 cash bail through a bail bond company on Saturday and is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 11.
