City man jailed on drug charges

An Altoona man was jailed Thursday night after Logan Township police allegedly found methamphetamine on him at a motel.

Matthew E. Rhoades, 37, was arrested Thursday night after officers found him in a room at the Cedar Grove Motel, 1671 Bellemade Drive, with methamphetamine in his pocket, according to the charges.

Police were at the motel looking for 52-year-old Daniel Lee Batts of Tyrone, who is out on bail for a felony drug case and was wanted on a bench warrant.

Rhoades is also awaiting trial on several drug-related cases since April, and on Friday he was also charged by Altoona police with felony drug charges stemming from an alleged drug sale in late June.

Police said Rhoades and Batts were in the room with a woman and all three were sleeping when officers arrived Thursday evening. Drug paraphernalia, including a loaded syringe, were sitting out in the room, police said.

Rhoades was charged by Logan Township police with felony intent to deliver methamphetamine and misdemeanor counts of drug and drug paraphernalia possession.

Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio set bail for Rhoades on Friday morning at $7,500 cash.

Magisterial District Judge Daniel DeAntonio set bail for Rhoades on the Altoona police case from late June at $15,000 cash. Rhoades remains in the Blair County Prison with preliminary hearings slated for Aug. 6 at Central Court and Aug. 12 before Judge Dunio.
