Bloomfield Twp. bridge work to start Tuesday
PennDOT has announced that work will begin Tuesday on the second bridge in a two-bridge replacement project in Bloomfield Township, Bedford County.
The second project is for the Sproul Mountain Road (Route 1042) bridge. Work will include replacing the existing single lane structure over Halter Creek with a precast concrete box culvert that will accommodate two traffic lanes, minor roadway approaches and guardrail upgrades.
Work on the bridge will be completed under a 19.6-mile detour. The detour will follow Cross Cove and Sproul Mountain roads (Route 1042), Sproul Mountain Road (Route 2024), I-99, Woodbury Pike (state Route 36) and Cross Cove Road (Route T-608).
Wen-Brook Contracting Inc. of Three Springs is the prime contractor.
All work on the $639,166 project should be completed by August.
Work on the first bridge, which carries Bloomfield Road (Route 867) over a tributary to Halter Creek, is complete.
Akers Road bridge to be replaced
Work on the Akers Road Bridge (T-386) rehabilitation project in Monroe Township, Bedford County, will begin Wednesday. The bridge will be closed.
A detour will follow McCune Road (T-394), Back Road (T-393), Akers Road (T-386), Rock Hill Church Road and Mechanics Hollow Road, or Route 2033.
The work will consist of removal of the existing bituminous wearing surface and the addition of a new 5-inch composite, concrete deck. Minor roadway approach work and guardrail upgrades also will be done.
The prime contractor is Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc. of Everett.
Work on the project is to be complete by September.
