Helmet giveaway set for Trail of the Year
DILLTOWN — The Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority and Indiana County Parks and Trails will host a free helmet giveaway on Saturday.
The helmet giveaway will begin at 11 a.m. end at 2 p.m. or until helmets run out. The Dilltown trail head is located across from the Dillweed Bed & Breakfast at 7453 Route 403 in Armagh.
The event is being held to encourage trail user safety while visiting the Ghost Town Trail, which was named Pennsylvania’s 2020 Trail of the Year by the Trails Advisory Committee, a committee formed under the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to select a featured trail each year based on a competitive process.
“Many new visitors have been enjoying the Ghost Town Trail since the Trail of the Year announcement and the beginning of the pandemic,” said Caytlin Lusk, CCCRA program coordinator. “We are thankful for the trail recognition, and for the opportunity to host this event with our local communities.”
Trail enthusiasts are encouraged to attend the giveaway to receive a free helmet and use the Ghost Town Trail at their leisure. Trail safety guidelines and Ghost Town Trail rules also will be distributed. Visitors are encouraged to follow proper health guidelines from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Department of Health, such as wearing a mask and maintaining a 6-foot distance between others.
The helmet project is funded in part by the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association and the state DCNR’s Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program funded through the Federal Highway Administration.
