East Freedom man accused of fleeing
Police say search turned up drugs, paraphernalia
An East Freedom man is facing charges after leading police on a short chase through Freedom Township on June 16.
According to the charges filed by Freedom Township police, a passing officer saw Jonathan R. Musselman, 37, shirtless while operating an ATV on Cream Hollow Road and Johnstown Road.
When the officer attempted to stop the ATV, Musselman allegedly accelerated up Johnstown Road at about 50 mph before turning south onto Singer Lane. Police said Musselman then turned off on Glass Lane at a high rate of speed and attempted to squeeze through a steel gate and a tree, getting the ATV stuck against the tree.
As Musselman was attempting to free the ATV, the officer approached him and drew his Taser and took Musselman into custody.
A search of Musselman’s person allegedly turned up a lighter with marijuana residue, a small glass container with trace amounts of marijuana in it and an air compressor nozzle police said was being used as a smoking apparatus.
Musselman is facing misdemeanor counts of fleeing or attempting to elude police, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as summary charges of driving without a license, driving while operator’s license is suspended, careless driving and reckless driving.
Musselman was charged by summons. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20 in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew Blattenberger.
