County seeking contact tracers

The Blair County Emergency Management Agency is asking for volunteers to be part of the county’s COVID-19 Contact Tracing Team.

The purpose of the county’s team is to support the state Department of Health by notifying people, as rapidly and as sensitively as possible, of their potential exposure to COVID-19, according to EMA Director Mark Taylor who distributed a news release Wednesday seeking volunteers.

Volunteers on the county’s team also will be expected to render guidance and support to those who have been exposed, to help them understand what they can do to care for themselves and to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure to those in their household.

Contract tracing, Taylor said, is a key strategy for preventing further spread of COVID-19.

Those interested in helping with the effort should contact the agency to receive a description of the duties and qualifications. The agency can be reached at 940-5900 and by email to cfredrickson@atlanticbbn.net.
