Blair arts, symphony receiving federal funds

The Blair County Arts Foundation and the Altoona Symphony Orchestra were among 309 nonprofit arts organizations statewide receiving grants totaling $2.3 million to help with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The federal funds can be used for support staff salaries, fees for artists or contractual personnel and facilities costs.. The National Endowment for the Arts distributed $1.8 million to 36 organizations that will each receive a $50,000 grant. The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts distributed the remaining $527,000 to 273 organizations that will each receive a $1,930 grant, Gov. Tom Wolf said.

In Cambria County, the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance, Johnstown Area Heritage Association, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art were recipients.

State Theatre Inc. and Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts Inc. received money in Centre County.
