Two free milk giveaways planned

MARTINSBURG — Two free milk give aways will be held on Saturday.

One free gallon of milk per vehicle will be distributed at 10 a.m. at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, Johnson Pavilion, 201 S. Walnut St., Martinsburg; and at the First Church of Christ, 113 Good Shepherd Road, Altoona. The milk will be given out while supplies last.

Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program board member Jennifer Heltzel, a dairy farmer from Blair County, is working with the local Farm Bureau and American Dairy Association North East to organize dairy drive-thrus funded with grants from the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.

“Milk and dairy foods are an important source of essential nutrients,” Heltzel said. “It’s a priority now to help put nutritious foods in the hands of families, especially those with children.”

Heltzel’s initiative will bring over 4,000 gallons of milk to local families. In addition to public drive-thrus, milk deliveries will be made to other local groups including the Altoona Senior Center, Williamsburg Senior Center, New Life Church East Freedom, The Crossroad Williamsburg and the Mountain Lion BackPack Program.
