Police: Delaware County man attacked homeowner and officers

A Delaware County man is in Blair County Prison after Altoona police say he struggled with a homeowner, and then police, after he was spotted trying to get into vehicles.

According to police, Christopher W. Caywood, 29, of Glen Mills, ran off before police arrived after he got away from a resident on the 2600 block West Chestnut Avenue, who had called 911 while holding Caywood down, about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The resident had seen Caywood lifting the handles of vehicles to get in them, and after Caywood got away, he was found in a backyard. Police said he fell over backward when he walked toward officers and he spoke unintelligible words and smelled of alcohol.

Police said Caywood tried to hit the resident who approached him as he tried getting into vehicles and after his arrest, Caywood allegedly gave police fake names and then struggled with officers.

Ultimately it took four officers to subdue Caywood at the Altoona Police Department, according to the charges.

Caywood was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Daniel DeAntonio on Tuesday, and he is held in Blair County Prison in lieu of $7,500 cash bail. Caywood is charged with felony robbery and multiple misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, theft from a motor vehicle, loitering and prowling at night and false identification to law enforcement.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 3 before Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones.
