Festival invites Hall of Famers

Earth Wind & Fire eyed for borough Community Days

DUNCANSVILLE — New Mayor Eric Fritz talked of plans at Borough Council’s Monday evening meeting for Community Days — an event that won’t take place for six months.

But when Fritz said the event committee was “close to tying down Earth Wind & Fire to headline the festival, the drowsiness of a long meeting blew away.

“The REAL Earth Wind & Fire,” Fritz said, interrupting himself to answer a reporter’s surprised look.

Active for 50 years, enshrined in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, winner of seven Grammy awards, Earth Wind & Fire will be slated for Memorial Park in Duncansville on July 18, if the managing-partner group of the Washington, D.C.-based band accepts the proposed agreement recently negotiated with the event committee by one partners, Fritz said after the meeting.

“It’s pretty huge,” Fritz stated of the possibility of getting the band.

If the arrangement doesn’t implode, EWF will probably be the biggest name ever to come to Community Days, Fritz said.

He credited former mayor and longtime Community Days organizer Lloyd Forshey with the so-far successful negotiations.

Fritz declined to say how much the committee has agreed to pay for the band, whose most famous hit is probably 1978’s “September,” after consulting new Borough Council President Dave Smith.
