City man accused of hitting neighbor

Police: Brown allegedly owed beer money

A city man faces felony charges after police say he attacked a man who said he owed him beer money.

Melvin Lee Brown Sr., 49, of 1100 14th Ave., Apt. 9, was arrested Friday on charges that include felony burglary and criminal trespass after Brown allegedly walked into a neighboring apartment and started punching a man.

According to charges filed by Altoona police, Brown opened the door to the apartment and punched in the face a man who was sitting in a chair. A witness told police that Brown punched the man about five times and the man then fell onto the floor where Brown allegedly kept throwing punches before he kicked the man several times.

Police said Brown assaulted the man because he had accused Brown of owing him money for beer.

Brown was released on an unsecured $40,000 bond Saturday morning after his arraignment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29 at Central Court.
