Woman accused of endangering child

An argument between an Altoona woman and her boyfriend allegedly led to a baby getting struck by shards of wood.

Nadia R. Leslie, 36, was charged Monday by Altoona police with a felony count of endangering the welfare of a child after officers responded to her home about

9 p.m. and found a 1-year-old hade been hit with pieces of wood after Leslie broke a door frame during an argument with her boyfriend.

According to the charges, the boyfriend was holding the child during the argument, and after he walked with the child into a bedroom and locked the door, Leslie allegedly struck the door and broke the door frame.

The child was left with a welt on the forehead, above the left eye, police said. The child was checked by AMED ambulance personnel and turned over to the boyfriend, who is the baby’s father, according to the charges.

Leslie was arraigned Tuesday morning by Magisterial District Judge Steven Jackson and released on an unsecured $7,5000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11 at Central Court.
