Police: Truck driver’s failure to stop at light caused crash

Incident closed down South 17th Street

A crash on Sunday that closed down South 17th Street was caused by a truck driver who failed to stop for a red light, according to Logan Township police.

Police said Tuesday the tractor-trailer driver, whose name is being withheld pending further investigation, was headed south on I-99 about 7 p.m. when he exited the highway onto South 17th Street, drove through a red light and crashed into another vehicle.

Police said the truck pushed the vehicle across two lanes before it spun and came to a rest as the truck continued across a grass median for two I-99 South on-ramps, struck a guardrail and came to a stop with the front of the truck over the embankment.

The truck driver complained of leg pain but refused medical treatment. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to UPMC Altoona by ambulance and admitted for further evaluation and treatment, police said.
