Police: Road rage turned up gun
Thomas allegedly had stolen weapon
A traffic stop over a suspected road rage incident allegedly turned up a stolen gun in Altoona.
Jesse W. Thomas, 23, of Altoona, was arrested early Monday after Altoona police pulled over a silver-colored Jeep just before 3 a.m. and found that Thomas not only had an outstanding warrant, he was also carrying a stolen Glock 42 handgun.
According to Altoona police, Thomas was behind the wheel of a Jeep that matched the description of a vehicle police said was involved in a road rage incident earlier that night. After Thomas was stopped on the 1500 block of 18 1/2 Street, police learned Thomas was wanted on a Blair County bench warrant.
When police took Thomas into custody and searched him, they allegedly found the stolen .380-caliber handgun in the waistband of his pants. Police noted Thomas does not have a license to carry a gun and a check of the Glock’s serial number showed it was reported stolen in Altoona on April 13.
The handgun was loaded with a round in the chamber, and Thomas told police he bought the gun off the street from a friend, according to he charges.
Thomas was booked on felony charges of receiving stolen property and carrying a firearm without a license. Bail was set at $50,000 cash on Monday morning by Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones, and Thomas is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at Central Court on Dec. 18.
