Police: Inmates made ‘hooch’

Six women face charges after police said seven cups of jailhouse alcohol were found in their Blair County Prison cell.

According to charges filed by Hollidaysburg Borough police, two guards were in cell K-26 on Nov. 3 and “could smell the odor of ‘hooch.'”

A search of the cell allegedly turned up seven plastic cups of liquid with fruit in it, and when a sample was provided to police, it tested positive for alcohol.

The six inmates who shared the cell were Erika Cool, 34, Jessica Foor, 31, Christy Mengel, 38, Marni Miller, 36, Tara Jo Sprankle, 38, and Kara S. Tornatore, 29.

All six women are each charged with a single count of misdemeanor contraband.

The inmates were charged Thursday and are scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner on Dec. 17 for arraignments preliminary hearings.
