City man held on drug counts
Drug charges were bound over to court for William John Smith, 51, of Altoona, who on Tuesday was jailed at Blair County Prison, in lieu of $30,000 cash bail as he awaits further court proceedings.
On Nov. 3, state police allegedly found about 11 bundles of heroin packaged in waxine bags stamped with “Blue Magic” in his car.
Smith was pulled over for a traffic stop regarding his vehicle’s rear lighting, but that escalated into the discovery that Smith’s license was DUI suspended. He was allegedly showing signs of impairment and admitted to taking oxycodone. Police asked for consent to search his vehicle, and Smith consented, according to a court affidavit.
He was arrested for drug possession with intent to deliver and suspicion of DUI.
